WIDE GLIDE FRONT END +2,HOW MUCH FORK OIL?
« on: Sunday, December 20, 2009. 09:38:26 AM. »
I HAVE A WIDE GLIDE FRONT END ON MY FXR,IT IS EXTENDED 2 INCHES BECAUSE OF A 38 DEGREES RAKE ON THE FRAME.
NOW,DO I USE THE SAME AMOUNT OF FORK OIL AS ON STANDARD FORKS,OR SHOULD IT BE MORE ?

The oil is stored in the lower legs, so the amounts will not change just because the uppers are longer.

The amount of oil in the fork effects what is called the air spring, if I remember correctly. The 'room' left above the oil in the tube. Because you can compress a gas but not a fluid the oil level in the tube does have an effect on the stiffness of the suspension. I'd start with an additional 2oz per leg and then test the ride. If It is soft add an additional 1oz per leg at a time until you like it. I added three inches to a wide glide, four inch tubes w/one inch lowering kit, and if memory serves plus 4oz each did the trick for me.

Proggresives web site and Race tech's web site both have the procedure to remove spring.  Colapse top tube into lower leg and fill with oil to certian measurement below botton of treaded portion.  I did a quik glance and couldn't find it on progressive's.  I suggest taking the time to find it.

I found the instructions for progressive springs and will try that.
Thanks for all the tips.
