tireater:
I have a riding buddy that was passing a car that turned left into him w/o a signal. He went offroad and totalled his new Road Glide...
He is banged up and sore but I don't think he broke anything...The bike is totalled...He was wondering...
Should he get a local lawyer or go for one of the big name ones in the cycle mags...Thanks

Dennis The Menace:
Were it me, I would go get MRI of my neck and back to make sure nothing was damaged. If so, he wont know for years, perhaps.
After that, I would deal with the persons insurance until they try to screw me..then, I get a lawyer. I operate in good faith.
And, if they are intent to screw me over, then I go to the max, and sue them for everything they have. I know some see this as first recourse, I see it as last.
Too many lawsuits as it is. If you get your body repaired, and your bike back the way it was, then you are good. Why ask for more? (nevermind, its the new age way of thinking--entitlement for everyone, no personal responsibility--not my fault, the political ads are over, I just forgot the message until January).

Bulit:
I have a friend who was in a wreck and called one of those MC lawyers, can't remember who, but they never called back. So he tried another and no call back again. I guess they thought he had nothing so they didn't even bother to call him. He ended up setteling with insurance.
blk-betty:
Sorry I can't add much here except to say I work in the medical field and when I read the first sentence from Dennis the Menace I thought to myself... so if something in the MRI looks bad, how can you prove it was not bad before the accident.... another case of looking for the injury lottery.
Then I read the entire post and thought, man this guy really seems like he has the right attitude - get what is fair and move on. I thought who the heck is this Dennis the Menace, guy seems like a real stand up fellow. Then I saw what he use to be called on HTT and I think even more from his past posts he is one of the good guys.
Back on topic and using Medicine as an example, here in my area unless you have something really unusual you are better served finding the better surgeon in town than going to a regional specialist because they won't be around when you come back with problems and often the local docs develop an attitude if "I wasn't good enough for you at first, don't come back to me when the big dog can't fix you". Don't know if law is the same way as medicine but I tend to shy away from anyone that does a lot of advertising, especially anyone from out of town.
Best of luck and hope he gets everything (he and the bike) back together without too much misery.
