Frogg Toggs raingear
« on: Friday, September 21, 2012. 06:06:07 AM. »
Lookin to buy this gear but wondered if anyone has a bit of practicle info.
Does this stuff pack up small or is it kind of bulky? It does seem expensive and last time I bought cheap raingear, the pants pretty much blew apart in the wind. Junk.
Cheers, Flhfxd.

the good news is that it breathes and will pack small....the bad news is if you touch it to a hot pipe it will burn through....some folks have sewn a piece of ironing board cover on the inside of the legs to solve the pipe problem

Two of my friends have Frogg Toggs. One likes his, the other bought a new HD suit when we were in Sturgis. They don't pack real small.  F.T. makes MANY different models, golf/fishing/mcy.. The mcy ones have better closures.  F.T., DO feel better against bare skin than many others.

I'd not recommend Frog Toggs. They melt and stick to anything hot.. engine, exhaust and all thats hot. Plus they will not last very long, a few wearings. Buy gear from a motorcycle shop. Only plus for Frog Togg, it's easy and quick to slip into.

I went the frogg togg route and they are still working good through two seasons.  I did sew the ironing board material to the inside of my right pant leg as I have dual exhaust on one side.  No issues with them at all really although they don't pack the smallest in the original sack.  FWIW  Next time I am going to try the HD suit to see how much better it is for the extra $70 or so.

Keep a set on my bike for unexpected surprises (rain).  When I know I've got a great chance of getting wet, I pack my hd gear.

Have had the frog toggs for 4 years - they are dirty but still work great.

The part about not getting them near heat is absolutely correct - don't ask me how I know!!!

I can agree with keeping a set of Frog Toggs on a bike for a sudden need, as others have said, they pack small. I've owned them, I don't like them, and I donated mine to the garbage can and bought a two piece Tour Master rain suite. High quality and won't burn at the legs.

I used Frogg Toggs, Harley rain gear and sailing rain gear.  My favorite are the Frogg Toggs. I used the iron board cover to provide heat protection from the pipes.

My wife and I both had Frog Togs and thought they were a waste of good money. Mine barely lasted a season, hers a bit longer. We ride alot and used the gear more than your average rider. The lower priced HD gear seems to be good, a few friends use it. Better yet is the $150-$175 gear that HD sells. Great rain gear, it will keep you dry, but it is a bit on the bulky side.
I am an adult?? When did that happen, and how do I make it stop?!

Some Frogg Toggs called Hogg Toggs come with a better liner, reflective piping and a heat patch for you to install before you melt them to your pipes.  They are only $20 more than the cheaper version.

I had some Frogg Toggs and sold them. I went to Walmart (sporting goods dept by fishing gear) and bought some Stearns rain gear for about $40. Breathable and pack small. Much better IMHO...

If you go FT, make an effort to try them on first...especially the pants as they seem a bit too short in the seated position.  Nothing quite like having the top of your boot exposed to fill with rain water.

I had a set.  The pants lasted until the first time I threw my leg over my Low Rider.  After that my right leg was all wet for the remainder of that trip.  I did wear the jacket for an emergency car trunk rain jacket for a few years after that.  I need a rain suit now and was thinking about another FT because they pack so little and my new Switchback is really short on bag space.  But then again the FLD exhaust is even closer to my leg and another FT leg melt would be inevitable.  I keep looking and don't know what to do.  I take a long trip once or twice a season and I just can't give up a bag for the stupid rain suit. I looked over at H-D the other day and they aren't the answer for my needs.  Hopefully I can decide on something by Christmas so I can put one on my Xmas list. I'd hate to actually have to buy a rain suit myself. Sigh.

tried to buy some Tourmaster pants on the website but there was no actual way to make a purchase. Had to "locate a dealer" first. What's the deal on that?  A website with no provisions for a sale?
Where do you get this stuff?

Finally replaced our FT's with FT's . Do you think we got our money's worth, since they were purchaced in 2005?
I use that vacumn bagger,(Food Saver) to make em real small to pack. Leave the bag that they come with out because it takes space and the suit is protected by the plastic bag. One set,(Top and bottom), will vacumn down to only 1 inch thick. Now that saves space, when going 2 up.
Besides working well in the rain, they can be worn as another layer when cold.
Frog Togg's are the best bang for the buck and their cheap.

Sounds like you were on the MFG. web site. Look at any of the online MC metric stores or a local metric dealer.
