I understand wanting to race your Harley against the metric bikes, but unless your rich it might just be a major money drain with little reward. Personally if I had the bug again ,I would look for a salvage titled bike and make it a track only bike. The money you save on the purchase price would be better spent on motor work. There are deals out there that will get you the thrill your looking for, for minimum investment . Super fast bikes for a fraction of what the cost of what a stock Harley goes for. Here's an example. http://southjersey.craigslist.org/mcy/3273844147.html

Drag racing is a money draining passion, period. Did it (or tried to) with cars for a while. Racing period, really is a financial black hole.

Hard and expensive, and even much more expensive to try to beat the heavy hitters by taking your own (Harley) path.

Not trying to discourage you, just offering a dose of reality.

Good luck whatever you decide.

The reward is doing something than most don't think is possible, creating something with your own brain, two hands, sweat, money, help of friends, persistence, and good ol' hard work. It is a priceless feeling to go to a local track, or roll up to a light next to sportbikes and hang with them and some times put them on the trailer with a super quick HD-
Hell, watching the face of a Import guy or his buddies who I have just taken out is priceless...
Anyone can buy a cheap turn key import and run 10's or with slight modification, run 9's but whats the fun in that?
I guess it's like the t-shirt "If I have to explain it to you you won't understand"...
Sure it ain't cheap but to me it's worth every penny.

Mr . Morris hit right on       I started out on a 106 cu  / 11 second  dyna . I didn`t have a lot invested at that point . Heck some of you guys spend more on  chrome than I had in that motor    :teeth:.    You can , start racing with out deep pockets  , just to see if you really enjoy it . The right gearing and a good tire will put you a head of most .   I`m now in the process of trying to get a 9.9... with my 124 .   It does get expediently  harder the faster you want to go , But when I hammer a metric you can`t slap the smile off my face ..............bladerunner      :soda:

You aren't telling me anything new about the black hole of drag racing. I already have a turbocharged drag radial car.  I'm just looking for something new.

I know where you can get an FXR w 135+ HP/TQ for 10,500.  Previous owner of this bike said it ran a 9.90.
A 55 Gallon drum of $100 bills should fix that!

Possible? yes,  Probable? no.  The fastest way to get a HD in the 9's is to push it out of the back of an airplane.  With enough cubic bucks and no limit on displacement it could be done, but you'd be competing with bikes that run 9's off the showroom floor and well below that with a few mods.  If your UJM riding competitors have the same plan as you it could prove to be near impossible to be competitive.

This might be a stupid Q but I've never really spen much time at or around drags. The phrase "with the right rider", or something close to that always comes up in these kinda threads. What is it that makes the difference? Is it just the ability to hook up the a$$ end quick??What makes a good drag pilot??

:agree: personally I think most racers aren't lovers of actual riding... they just want to light it up in a qtr mi and shut her down... whatever floats your boat, not me... get me on my bike for an all day ride, not this nonsense... it's like racing a Camaro SS against a high tech exotic sports car, Lambergini or exotic BMW... you'll only embarras yourself...  :hyst:
