Wrist Pin Intallation
« on: Tuesday, September 11, 2012. 10:48:00 AM. »
Are most people in agreement that the easiest way to install the wrist pin on TC is to install the piston, move it to the bottom  of the bore until the pin is exposed then install while either holding the jug or have it tied to the frame some how?

Personally, I insert the piston into the bottom of the jugg up to the last ring and slide the jugg on the studs which I have slip on a couple of split pvc pipes. Line everything up , insert wrist pin, install remaining circlip, remove pvc and slide into place. Thats me. YMMV.

Hey, I like that pvc idea. :teeth: Seems that it would make a lot less fumbling around. Thanks.

I use a tool because I have one. If I didn't I would use the copper coupling trick or the like.

No................. fingers and a small screwdriver...........the HD piston clips are easy the CP piston clips are a little harder but still doable.

Same thing I do, not sure who recommended this but it works great with the split PVC.  I also have a circlip tool IMHO it beats a small screw driver any day.

You must be a gorilla because I can't get those CP clips in without the tool.  If I try, I end up scratching the piston up beyond what I'm comfortable with.  I used to use screwdriver and fingers until I came across those brutal clips.

I put one clip in, put rubber hose over the studs to not scratch the piston, then install and put the second clip in my hand using a 90 bent pick. It's a little tricky but once you get used to it, no big deal at all.

I've been using the Kramm Lox by CP. Works like a charm with the installation tool they make.

Not my idea, it's been around for some time. Don't forget to close off the cases with rags and don't forget to remove the rags as well.

I use the Tsani method.  How about those spiral locks for the JE pistons; those little guys are lots of fun.

I tried the tubing and socket bit.  I couldn't make it work for me.  I reverted to my childhood MC repair roots.  I start one end, grab the other with needle nose pliers lined up with the notch and shove 'er in.  Finish with a few taps from the nose of the pliers and you're done.

With the conector trick, I find that for me it works when I take a pair of needle nose pliers and shove the top of the lock ring in while letting the gap end hang out a bit so that the ring sits in the tube at an angle. I then insert this into the area where the lock ring goes and use the deep well socket to push the ring while I am holding the tube. Clicks right in for me.
