Detent Plate

(1/2) > >>

FLSTN:
The retaining ring holding my detent plate on broke in half. The pins in the shift drum were pulled out a little, too. I would like to change the stock set-up with a new type retaining ring (spiral or e-clip) and use a thin washer to take out play. I've read elsewhere about this option plus red loctiting the pins in the shift drum. Anyone familiar with this?

PC_Hater:
What year bike?
Baker Drivetrain do shifter drums for 1991 to 2003 Sportsters.
And that is the limit of my knowledge.

FLSTN:
Thanks for the reply. It's a '99. Pins on end of shift drum seem to want to come out and push detent plate enough to break the retaining clip. Seems to be a common problem on models you mentioned. I've got some spiral rings in transit and a couple of stock clips in hand, if I was gonna keep this bike I'd consider the Baker drum.  :soda:

PC_Hater:
Neither of my Sportsters had any problems at all. Just change the oil kick the tyres grease a few things and ride.
That was 25,000 miles on a 1999 1200S and now about 5,000 miles on a 2000 1200S with an oil leak from the front rocker box and what I think might be noisy lifters.

Wife's bike has done it 3 times  last time I used the red loctite on the pins and haven't had anymore problems,
