Dirt Track?
bluehighwayfx:
Have any of you made the conversion to the XR look? What front end mods did you use? Did you change the shocks? How was handling affected? Lots of questions. 04 XL1200R

You mean like this? - look at the photo.
Mainly a clever paint job done on a 2000 1200S by Black Bear Harley-Davidson in Newmarket, Suffolk, UK. They fitted the Supertrapp 2:2.
I saw it on eBay and it was soooo pretty I had to have it.
I fitted the rearsets and the thin Le Pera seat.
Now it has higher Biltwell Frisco handlebars to improve rider comfort.

I spent a little time looking at Sportsters when they did the 883 class of flattrack and roadrace. Really for the 2 there wasn't that much done. Sure some changes in suspension including they used 14" shocks in the rear to reduse fork angle so the bike would turn better. The upsweep super trapps were a big part. A few years before (about 92) Harley offered a conversion kit. Pipes, tank, seat, and a few other parts. It was much like a Stortz conversion. I loved it but it didn't sell. Do the cosmetic parts and either use all 18" wheels or lace up 19" and have at it. At least I will like you bike and it won't look like the screwed up factory model. There has to be a bunch of info out there. Check out www.thekneeslider.com. and og back theough the pages as there are a bunch of conversions. While there look in the archives, search, Steve Welte Triumph

I would love to build an 883 or 1200 for flat tracking. I have a few questions, I would run in the SEMDTRA series. THey run 1/5 and 1/4 milr tracks. DOes anyone know how light I could get the sportster. Most of the guys are running 500 Yamahas and such which weight about 280 pounds. How do you all think the sporty would preform?
