103 twin cam
« on: Friday, July 01, 2011. 08:46:50 AM. »
Now that it looks like the 103 will be the standard engine on the 2012 touring bikes, what are the pro's and con's of them. Do they run hot, how is the low end torque, and what is the reliabilty of these engines?

Except for the bore, everything else is basically the same!
You get the benefit of upgraded compensator and ACR's in the heads on the new touring bikes.
My '09 was 96" my '10 is 103, not much SOTP difference IMHO. :smiled:

A stage 1 & set of SE 255 cams woke up my 96 to what I thought a stock bike should be like, just how much cam would be needed to comparably wake up the 103?

It wouldn't matter to me if the new bikes came with a 96 or 103, I'd still be taking the top end apart to add power.  Doesn't cost any more to go from 96 to 107 than it does to go from 103 to 107.

I only have 7000 miles on my 103, and it's stock. It runs hot, like 260* oil hot. Mine has a lot of primary noise, I say it's top end noise but the local dealer insists it's the usual primary sounds when using the SE Comp. I am happy with the power and have no interest in head or other 'improvements' Good low end torque, loads more then my '01 Fatty with stock 88.
