Oil Leak from Breather Pipe - 1986 FLHTC
« on: Saturday, September 05, 2009. 10:37:47 AM. »
My 86 FLHTC has the breather pipe under the engine with a filter on it.  I installed a new filter as the old one was plugged with oil and road grime.  After shutting off the engine I've noticed a large puddle of oil coming from the breather filter. I I believe this is for blowback from the engine.  Why would  excessive oil drip out?

While it is not unusual for the bike to spit at start up (from sumping), it should not puke after you have rudden the bike.  On my own bike, I notice that there is sometimes a small drop of oil under the filter (but that's all).  If you're getting a lot of blowby from the rings, there will be more liquid oil in the breather hose.

Could  overfilling the oil be the cause?
